Event Details
Visitors can expect an engaging and educational introduction to the vibrant world of West African rhythms. The performance will begin with an exploration of the djembe drum, where Victoria Boateng will break down its three distinct sounds—bass, tone, and slap—demonstrating how each contributes to the rich, dynamic rhythms. She will also introduce the dunun drums, explaining the unique roles of each: the songban (middle drum), the kenkeni (high-pitched drum), and the dununba (low-pitched drum), showcasing how these instruments work in harmony to create a powerful musical foundation.
As the performance unfolds, Victoria will guide the audience through traditional rhythms such as Balakulandjan and Makru, both originating from Guinea, West Africa. These rhythms are not only deeply rooted in African culture but also serve as a means of storytelling and community building. This performance will be a captivating blend of live drumming, cultural education, and personal expression, offering both a musical experience and an opportunity to learn about the traditions that shape West African drumming.
