Nature Observed by Vicki Liszewski

Wisconsin native Vicki Liszewski spent most of her working life as a graphic designer, typographer, and corporate Art Director with brief stints as a K-12 art teacher and a not-for-profit office manager. Over her career, she has designed everything from record album covers to parking garage signage to websites, and typeset everything from cookbooks to computer manuals.

In her retirement years, Vicki has returned to fine art and is working on honing her skills. Nature, birds, and landscapes are her main subjects in watercolor and pastel. Her goal is to depict the beauty of nature realistically but expressively. The process of seeing as an artist sees and translating that vision to paper is something she finds endlessly thrilling.

“I loved observing, painting, and drawing nature from an early age. I believe the essential part of being an artist is learning to “see.” In my art, I try to express the joy I get from seeing the play of light on a landscape, the wonder felt when observing the detail in a bird’s feathers, a flower’s petals, or a seed pod. Observing and then trying to capture what I think about the subject in a drawing or painting is a continuing learning process that I love. I want to share my wonder about what I see.”

Vicki is a member of the Nature Artists Guild of the Morton Arboretum, the Chicago Pastel Artists, and the DuPage Art League.
